Poker - Texas Hold'em

Poker - what is it?

The term poker is widespread and known to almost everyone. You regularly come across this game in films and on television, as well as in literature and in everyday communication with friends, acquaintances and the environment in general. But few people realize what kind of diversity is behind this.

Poker is one of the most famous and popular card games in the world and at Ruby Fortune casino NZ. First of all, simple basic rules combined with high competitiveness ensure great popularity. With the advent of online casinos and poker rooms in recent years, the spread of poker has increased again. First of all, this is a variation of Texas Hold'em, which caused a worldwide sensation with the James Bond movie Casino Royal. But as far as the term poker is known, the different variations and rules are rarely explained in plain language for laymen.

Rules of the game

In general, poker is a game in which participants place a bet that they will have the best combination of players. The game usually uses a deck of French cards, consisting of 52 cards. The hand always consists of five cards, which are counted together. However, depending on the option, players can be dealt a different number of cards (face up and / or face down) or put face up in the general pool. The number of rounds in which you can play bets and / or new cards or exchange cards also varies greatly. Next, we will consider in more detail the most common option at the present time - Texas Hold'em poker. Various other versions of the game are summarized below.

Poker Texas Hold'em Rules and Procedure

In this variant, the games can be played very well against each other by two to ten players. One of the players acts as a dealer (hereinafter also referred to as the “dealer”). From this point clockwise, each player is dealt two hole cards. The two players to the left of the dealer must make blind bets before the cards are dealt. They are divided into "small blind" and "big blind", with the "big blind" subsequently being the smallest unit that can be posted. All other players can now perform other actions.

This includes:

- Pass (or also called fold): Cards are placed here without further use and the player no longer takes part in the game until the end of this round.

- Call (also called a call): the player offers the highest bet at the moment.

- Raise (also called a raise): the player raises the bet.
Here, a distinction is made between the various options with and without restriction. In limit hold'em you can only increase one big blind with each increase, in no limit hold'em, however, up to the full amount the player has at his disposal.

If all players lose or call the highest bet, three cards are revealed, available to all players together. This part of the round is also called the "flop". After another round of betting with the same rules that were mentioned, another community card ("turn") is revealed, followed by another round of betting and a fifth and final community card ("river"). Each player now has a total of 7 (two hidden, private, and five public cards) from which they can now combine their best hand. There is no limit to the number of community cards in Texas Hold'em. After the final round of bidding, the winner of that round (also called the "showdown") will be determined.
